Etymology
Named in honor of Monsieur Hippolyte Boissel de Monville, a 19th-century French cactus collector and expert.
Description
Monvillea is characterized by slender, semi-erect or sprawling stems.
- Stems: Cylindrical, often bluish-green or marbled, with few ribs (usually 4-8).
- Flowers: Large, nocturnal, and white or pinkish. A key feature is that the floral tube is nearly naked (lacking significant wool or scales).
- Fruits: Ovoid to oblong, smooth, and typically red or purple when ripe. They contain juicy pulp.

- South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru.
