Etymology
Named in honor of Professor Francis Ernest Lloyd, a prominent Canadian-American botanist.
Description
Neolloydia consists of small, globose to cylindrical cacti that often grow in small groups.
- Stems: Reaching up to 10-15 cm in height, covered in prominent tubercles.
- Spines: Dense and needle-like, usually greyish or black, covering the stem significantly.
- Flowers: Large, funnel-shaped, and usually bright pink or magenta, emerging from the top of the plant.
Distribution
- USA: Southern Texas.
- Mexico: Chihuahuan Desert regions.
