Etymology

Named in honor of Professor Francis Ernest Lloyd, a prominent Canadian-American botanist.

Description

Neolloydia consists of small, globose to cylindrical cacti that often grow in small groups.

  • Stems: Reaching up to 10-15 cm in height, covered in prominent tubercles.
  • Spines: Dense and needle-like, usually greyish or black, covering the stem significantly.
  • Flowers: Large, funnel-shaped, and usually bright pink or magenta, emerging from the top of the plant.

Distribution

  • USA: Southern Texas.
  • Mexico: Chihuahuan Desert regions.
