Description

Arthrocereus glaziovii is a slender, columnar cactus species native to Brazil. Plants are typically branching from the base, forming clumps of thin, erect to slightly arching stems.

Stems are cylindrical, green to bluish-green, with several low ribs. Areoles are small and bear short, fine spines. Radial spines are numerous and thin, while central spines are few or absent.

Flowers are nocturnal, tubular to funnel-shaped, usually white, and relatively large compared to the stem diameter. The floral tube bears scales, hairs, and bristles. Fruits are small, globose, and dry when mature.

Distribution

  • Brazil – southeastern regions

Occurs in rocky habitats, often on exposed slopes or among quartzitic outcrops, typically in well-drained soils.

Taxonomy

According to Joël Lodé, this species is placed in the genus Arthrocereus.

The genus is part of the tribe Cereeae and includes several slender, columnar species adapted to rocky environments in Brazil.

📚 Taxonomy note: Taxonomic placement follows the system of Joël Lodé (2015–2019).
